Dance A-level
Unit 1 AS

Unit 1 is an opportunity for dance students to develop their technical ability by improving strength, flexibility, stamina and other dance skills. From September to March they will take part in a number of technique classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary (Graham), contemporary (Release), contact improvisation and yoga. Dance students also learn choreography skills through taught workshops, guest artist workshops and theatre visits to see the work of professional choreographers and the unit will culminate in a public dance performance which showcases both the creative work and the students’ improving dance skills.
As part of Unit 1 WMSF Dance students have completed workshops with dance companies such as Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Hofesh Schechter Dance Company, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company and Phoenix Dance Theatre.

How am I marked?

Students are marked on their ability to assess their existing skill level and develop a programme of dance training that is specific to their body. The programme will show independence and a good understanding of what is needed to be a professional dancer.
