William Morris students 2006

Our curriculum offer 2009-10

We offer courses at levels 1, 2 and 3. The level students enrol on depends on previous qualifications. For example, students who gain five or more GCSEs at grade C or above normally progress onto level 3 (advanced level).

There are two main types of course – academic and vocational/applied. GCSEs and traditional AS and A levels fall into the academic group; vocational or applied courses differ because they are work-related, focusing on an area of employment (like business or health care) and on learning through real world situations.

We encourage students to choose courses which offer a broad educational experience and to continue developing essential skills, particularly literacy. We believe that success on Post-16 courses and in employment depends on these skills just as much as on particular subject expertise. We are part of the Excellence in Cities programme which means that students identified as 'gifted and talented' are offered a range of extension and enrichment activities. Following is a list of courses we typically offer at each level. Please see each individual subject area for the current offer and for a detailed leaflet on each subject and course.
