English

Introduction

The English Department is one of the largest in the Sixth Form and our work is at the heart of the William Morris curriculum. We offer classes at all levels, ranging from intensive literacy support at level 1 through to Advanced level courses in English Language, English Literature, and English Language and Literature. English Language is also available at GCSE level, as both a one year and a two year course.

In all our subjects we aim to develop your thinking skills, as well as your ability to write effectively. You will learn how to read analytically, and to interpret different kinds of texts in context. We encourage students to take an active part in lessons, many of which involve you in discussing and sharing your opinions. We aim to challenge and interest all students.

Our results are good at all levels. For example students on GCSE courses, on average, improve on their previous attainment by more than a grade and our pass rate on all A2 courses is 100%
