Learning Support

The Learning Support Department is at the heart of the comprehensive, inclusive ethos that William Morris Sixth Form was set up with, and it underpins our firm belief in equality of education and a quality education for all our young people.

All students with SEND, who have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) are supported by the Learning Support team. We also support some students who are of the category K SEN support and K SEN SENCO Monitoring, they are usually students who have had a Statement in their previous school but have had their support withdrawn by the local authority.

Each Learning Support teacher and Higher-Level Teaching Assistant has a SEND caseload of students and where possible they will support their students in lessons and meet with them regularly for one-to-one support.

The Views of our SEN/D Parents/Carers

“… starting with the welcome day where pupils from his old school showcased WMSF for him and his classmates, I was reassured that the SEN provision and the pupils who need it were an intrinsic and valued part of the sixth form community.”

“…our son joined William Morris after years at a SEN school; we were worried that a mainstream setting would prove daunting for him, however, the excellent care and attention shown by the WMSF team made the journey for him much easier.”

“… she found her ‘voice’. She has progressed from being shy, afraid to communicate or ask for help, to being a confident and enthusiastic member of the Sixth Form community.”

“…they support the kids to build their confidence to follow the next phase of life as they move on to work or university.”

“All the team are friendly, attentive, approachable and knowledgeable.”

“The teachers are dedicated and supportive and the communication between us, as parents and the school, is very good.”

“… been really impressed with the thought put into encouraging social events for the pupils and the afternoon dedicated to non- academic activities, these have had a very positive impact on my son.
