WMSF 30 Year Celebration

Official Press Release:

William Morris Sixth Form Celebrates 30 Years of Empowerment through Learning

Wonderful Time Had by All at Anniversary Celebration

William Morris Sixth Form, a leader in post-16 education, proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary with an unforgettable event held at its St Dunstan’s Road site. The occasion marked three decades of innovation, growth, and unwavering commitment to its students.

The anniversary celebration was attended by 120 guests, including past and present students, staff, governors, as well as community leaders, all of whom enjoyed an evening filled with speeches, entertainment, fun and food. As they were leaving guests were given gifts to remind them of their time at WMSF. A keynote speech was given by former principal, Matthew Coulbeck, who also shared a moving message from the sixth form’s founder, Liz Walton M.B.E. A wonderful time was had by all, as attendees reminisced about the sixth form’s wonderful journey, and looked forward to a bright future.

Since its founding in 1994, WMSF has achieved numerous milestones, including becoming the UK’s first sixth form school. It is proud to have been so successful in helping students overcome barriers to their learning. It has always led the way in championing the student, enabling them to access university, in many cases, for the first time within their family. The sixth form’s dedication to its core values of learning, achievement, and empowerment, has been the cornerstone of its success, fostering a culture of inclusion and community.

The event also featured an excellent performance of a violin piece by current student Mira Okajima. Max McNamara, also a current student, regaled the audience with her reasons for joining the sixth form, which was well summed up by stating ‘it has allowed me to be me!’  It was a testament to the strong relationships and community that WMSF has built over the past 30 years.

As WMSF looks ahead to the next 30 years, it remains committed to its students, despite seismic shifts in the educational landscape. “We are excited about the future and the opportunities it holds,” said Mary Berrisford, current Principal. “We will continue to strive for excellence and to make a positive impact in Hammersmith and beyond!”
